Sunglasses have become a trendy accessory in today’s society. This is good for our eyes, as it reduces the risk of sunlight damage to our eyes. The Australian Medical Association has recommended the new slogan “Slip, Slop, Slap, Wrap” be used. This is in keeping with the tradition of the popular and effective catch phrase, the additional word ‘wrap’ refers to wrap-around sunglasses now recognised as being a necessary for eye protection against the sun’s harmful rays.

Improving Your Eye Sight

Many lifestyle factors have the potential to impact, both positively and negatively, on the health of our eyes. Ageing is predominantly the most influential factor on eye health and function. However, in a rapidly developing society, additional (somewhat unnatural) stress is being placed on our eyes due to the reliance on computers and other visual aids. The dynamic ability of the human eye to allow undisturbed vision is attributable to the many internal factors such as nutrition.

The consequences of poor eye health, leading to the loss of vision are obviously quite dramatic and distressing for all people who develop eye conditions. Eye problems are represented by changes in vision and the appearance of the eye, or an abnormal sensation felt within the eye. Many conditions of the eye are localised problems, but many also incorporate and implicate other areas of the body.

The ability of the human eye to produce vision is an incredibly complex chain of events, justifying the need to take good care for the health of our eyes. It begins when external light rays are focused to the visual processing area of the eye, called the retina. This process is dependent on various anatomical structures of the eye, operating together to accurately capture the intricate images of the world.
