Frequently Asked Questions
What is PM EyeTonic?
PM EyeTonic is scientifically formulated from the latest research to include the most beneficial natural ingredients for maintaining eye health and preventing potential (blindness-causing) eye conditions.
Our eyes are constantly subject to damage due to environmental stresses such as oxygen free radicals, UV light, and other damaging factors. As a result, we may develop eye conditions that cause visual disturbances that can lead to blindness. These conditions may affect people of all ages.
PM EyeTonic may assist healthy eye function by combating damaging environmental pressures such as UV light, excessive computer use, oxidative stress and inadequate nutrition. Importantly,
PM EyeTonic may also prevent harmful, blindness causing eye conditions from occurring and progressing.
What are the most common eye conditions which regularly cause impaired vision and blindness?
Visual impairment can result from a number of common eye confditions such as dry eyes, eye fatigue, and night blindness. Symptomatically, these conditions can cause eye irritation, burning eyes, eye strain, sensitivity to light, and other eye discomfort. Frequently, these symptoms are caused by a lack of specific nutrients within our diet which in time may lead to worse eye conditions and visual imparment.
The most prevalent source of blindness worldwide is cataract. . Cataract refers to the opacity or cloudiness of your normally transparent lens. Treatment normally requires expensive surgery to remove the cataract and replace it with a synthetic lens.
Other common eye conditions that cause blindness are glaucoma and macular degeneration, which are associated with eye deterioration due to age. This is most commonly associated with free-radical damage, which is reduced in the presence of antioxidants. Another risk factor can result from damage occurring to the tiny blood vessels that nourish the eyes, leading to eye sight deterioration and blindness.
How does PM EyeTonic work?
The ingredients of PM EyeTonic benefits eye health by improving eye adaptability to light, as well as providing eye surface, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant support. PM EyeTonic also maintains healthy blood vessels that supply nutrients to the eyes. These benefits combine in reducing the risk of blindness-causing eye conditions.
The ingredients of PM EyeTonic work on two levels – systemically, providing positive effects on blood flow to the eye and improving nutrient supply to the eyes, as well as locally within the eye, providing tissue protection and repair.
Can you tell me a bit more about the ingredients and how they work?
When we become deficient in vitamins A, B1 and B2, as well as deficient in omega-3 fatty acids, eye retinal cells become desensitized and function poorly. This obviously affects our vision and eye health in a severe manner.
PM EyeTonic is a great source of these nutrients and potent antioxidants. These nutrients support and maintain healthy eye function by neutralising oxidative stress, and maintaining blood vessel integrity within the eye, ensuring an adequate and nutrient rich blood supply to the eye. These nutrients are essential for ensuring eye health, improving eye function and reducing the risk of damage to eye tissue resulting from environmental factors and free-radicals.
Neglect of your eye health can lead to more serious eye conditions including cataract, glaucoma, and macula degeneration that may cause visual loss. Fish oil (DHA in particular), bilberry, and vitamins A, B1and B2, present in PM EyeTonic, have all been found to reduce the occurrence of these conditions.
PM EyeTonic reduces the appearance of dry, burning and red eyes through an anti-inflammatory action, whereby maintaining healthy function of eye surface cells. Furthermore, PM EyeTonic can assist visual acuity (focusing and clarity) and the ability to adapt to light variation, by preventing the breakdown, and maintaining higher levels, of the light sensing pigment rhodopsin.
What are omega-3 fatty acids?
Why are they good for me? Omega-3 fats are polyunsaturated fats that are found in significant quantities in seafood, particularly in oily fish, and to a lesser extent, in several plants and plant oils (eg. canola, linseed, soy and walnut). The evidence is now quite strong that omega-3 fats are beneficial in at least three areas of human health: heart disease, inflammatory disease, and development and maintenance of vision and brain function.
A dietary deficiency in omega-3 affects retinal function, which results in poor vision. In the eye, omega-3 fatty acids possesses antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that benefit the integrity of the blood vessels that supply the retina and the photoreceptors of the retina itself.
Studies have shown that omega-3 fish oils can protect the eyes from harmful environmental factors such as light, inflammation, ischemia, oxygen free-radicals and increasing age. Omega-3 fats may reduce the occurrence of blindness-causing eye conditions such as macula degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa.
Is bilberry the same as blueberry in terms of health outcomes?
Bilberries and blueberries have both been used in traditional medicine. Bilberries however, have been shown to be far more effective by modern scientific and clinical investigations. This is due to the fact that bilberries contain a significantly higher concentration of the active substances anthocyanins (a form of isoflavonoids), as well as a higher antioxidant potential, when compared to blueberries.
Anthocyanins, associated with the rich pigment colour in bilberries, have attracted much scientific investigation into their health benefits. The antioxidant properties of bilberry, as measured by its oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC), is higher than that for blueberries corresponding to the amount of anthocyanins. To date, there is evidence that anthocyanins reduce cell damage caused by oxidative stress, while protecting cardiovascular function, and possessing anti-inflammatory properties. For eye health, bilberry provides many protective effects against vision impairments and blindness.
Is there a link between nutrition and eye conditions?
Like the rest of our body, our eyes require water and nutrients for proper function. Generally, it is recommended that we maintain a balanced diet consistent with the major food groups. However, the nutrients in PM EyeTonic have been shown to be beneficial for healthy vision.
How does PM EyeTonic compare to other products with similar ingredients in the market?
Is the amount of each ingredient going to be enough for therapeutic purposes? Eye drops and other topical eye medications can cause considerable discomfort while aiming to reduce minor eye conditions. PM EyeTonic exists in conveniently and carefully prepared capsules, specially formulated to contain a combination of important naturally occurring substances for optimal eye health.
PM EyeTonic combines the most beneficial natural ingredients for maintaining eye health, proven by up-to-date scientific research. PM EyeTonic bilberry extract is obtained from Indena, a European manufacturer, with proven efficacy and safety at the levels present in PM EyeTonic. Tuna oil is purposely included in the formula comparatively rich in omega-3 fatty acid DHA, with a 5:1 ratio of DHA to EPA similar to that present in nutrient-rich human breast milk. The levels of vitamin A, B1 and B2 in PM EyeTonic are all within the therapeutic ranges observed in clinical studies for eye health.
What can I expect when taking PM EyeTonic? What are the outcomes?

Are there any contraindications associated with PM EyeTonic use?
With the exception of vitamin A, there is no clinical evidence of any contraindications associated with the use of PM EyeTonic when used at the recommended dose.
Excessive vitamin A intake can cause toxic effects, so this must be considered when taking PM EyeTonic as each capsule contains 2500IU of vitamin A (or 750mcg retinol equivalent).
While it is difficult for health authorities (including the WHO), to propose an upper limit for vitamin A intake , 10000IU (3000mcg retinol equivalent) has been proposed by Australia’s National Health & Medical Research Council (NH&MRC).
If you are pregnant however, or intend on becoming pregnant, a limit of 8000IU of vitamin A (2400mcg retinol equivalent) has been suggested. An excess of 8000IU of vitamin A can cause birth defects. If you are pregnant or considering becoming pregnant, do not take vitamin A supplements without consulting your doctor or pharmacist.
Can these contraindications be avoided?
Vitamin A toxicity may be avoided during pregnancy if you actively monitor your vitamin A intake to less than 8000IU per day. As vitamin A upper limits are difficult to estimate, it is suggested to keep to the recommended daily intake (RDI) as follows:
• infants and children 1000-2000IU (300-600mcg) per day;
• children 12+ and adults 2000-3000IU (600-900mcg) per day;
• pregnant and lactating women 2100-3300IU (700-1100mcg) per day
These figures have been suggested by the Merck Manual, the World Health Organization, and the NH&MRC.
What happens if I forget to take my PM EyeTonic or take too much?
If you miss a dose of PM EyeTonic, the levels of bilberry, fish oils and vitamins may drop below optimal levels for maintaining eye health. During this time you may be unprotected by the benefits of PM EyeTonic in maintaining eye health, including the combined antioxidant potential of the ingredients. If taking too much PM EyeTonic (i.e. is more than the recommended dosage), you may become susceptible to toxicity associated with increased levels vitamin A in particular. Always check with a health professional if you wish to vary the recommended dose on the label.
